Los Cabos Recap and Recommendations

We just got back from a week in Cabo San Lucas for the second time in two years. Cabo is one of our favorite destinations for a few reasons. One, it's a quick trip from the West Coast. The flight from San Francisco is less than 3 hours. Secondly, the weather is always perfect. We have been in the spring and in the fall and it has been beautiful both times. Three, every single person we have talked to is so nice!

Each time we go to Cabo we stay at a couple of different places, and I have a hot take about hotels vs resorts. We have stayed in high-end hotels, less high-end hotels, and all-inclusive resorts. My personal preference is to stay at a nice hotel with a dining option so you don't have to leave for every meal, but not an all-inclusive one. The food in San Jose Del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas is so good, and it's fun to go downtown and shop, sightsee, and eat. I feel like we like to leave the resort too much for the all-inclusive to be worth it.

That being said, if you only want to lie by the pool and have some drinks, an all-inclusive may be perfect for you!

Here are some of my recommendations for places to stay in Cabo:

  • Solaz Resort Los Cabos - This luxury hotel is not all-inclusive, but has six restaurants on site. The property is gorgeous, and it's right on the beach (it's not a swimmable beach).

  • The Cape, A Thompson Hotel by Hyatt - This hotel has breakfast daily and a few restaurants on site. It's located on the beach and is very close to Cabo San Lucas.

  • Hilton Los Cabos - Located in San Jose Del Cabo, this hotel sits on a private beach, has breakfast daily and five restaurants onsite.

  • Secrets Puerto Los Cabos - This is an adult-only all-inclusive resort, and it's beautiful. There are seven restaurants and five bars onsite. This resort also has swim-up rooms available.

  • Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas - This all-inclusive resort is located right on the beach with six pools, six restaurants, and six bars. If you are looking for a more budget-friendly resort, this is it. You also have access to the Riu Parties each night at Riu Santa Fe next door.

If you are looking for things to do in Los Cabos, you have plenty of options! Here are a few of my top picks:

  • Cabo San Lucas Luxury Sailing Yacht and Dinner with a Chef - We have done this sunset sail twice, and I HIGHLY recommend. There is an open bar, a steak dinner, only 20 guests, and beautiful sunsets. They also bring a photographer onboard, and I buy her photos of us in front of the arch every single time.

  • San Jose Del Cabo Art Walk - Art Walk happens in Downtown San Jose Del Cabo every Thursday from November through June from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm. There are dozens of art vendors, tables with homemade crafts and goods, food trucks, live music, and more. Stay and watch the sunset, and try the homemade ice cream truck for the perfect evening treat.

If you are looking for food recommendations in Cabo, I have a few for you. We prefer going to San Jose Del Cabo over Cabo San Lucas because it's a bit quieter, but there is fantastic food in both places. Some of my favorite restaurants are:

  • La Lupita - There is a location in both towns, and you have to try it. We stumbled on this restaurant the first time we went, and I'm still thinking about the Cheese Crust Pastor taco and the Corb Bread Ice Cream dessert years later.

  • Jazmin's in San Jose Del Cabo - We ate there twice in the last trip. It's authentic Mexican with such a cool vibe. The enchiladas with red sauce were my favorite.

  • AGAVE Kitchen in San Jose Del Cabo - I wanted to eat here so badly, but I couldn't get reservations while we were in town. It looks delicious.

  • Craft in Cabo San Lucas - This is another place that came highly recommended to me, and I didn't get to try. It's on my list for our trip next year!
